With the rapid pace of change in research and treatment and the wide array of powerful new medications, a revolution in the care of people with HIV/AIDS has been ongoing since the first edition of Living Well with HIV & AIDS appeared in 1996. The third edition offers the latest information based on the HIV care guidelines from the Department of Health & Human Services and the Center for Disease Control. It discusses a shift in treatments emphasis to the ways of managing side effects such as lypodystrophy, redistribution of body fat, cardiac risks, and concerns with vulnerability to other ailments called comorbidities.

A positive diagnosis for HIV/AIDS, for many today, takes on the nature of a longterm illness, similar in many ways to heart disease, diabetes, or arthritis. It impacts every aspect of an individual's life including eating, working, exercise, personal relationships, and sex. As with any chronic illness, the key lies in becoming a good selfmanager. Particularly helpful for friends and family as well as both professional and lay audiences Living Well with HIV & AIDS is among the standards in the field.
